This project is a compilation of hand-drawn animations created in my 2D Fundamentals course, taught by Mike Show. The class focused on building a strong foundation in the core principles of traditional animation—such as timing, spacing, squash and stretch, overlapping action, and the use of time charts.

Through exercises like bouncing balls, pendulums, and flour sack performance studies, I developed an understanding of how to give even the simplest forms believable weight, personality, and emotion. These assignments challenged me to not only master technical skills like timing charts and arcs but also to explore early concepts of character performance, thought process, and storytelling through motion.

As each animation plays you can see my improvement and ability to convey drawn movement—showcasing both the structure of the medium and my sense of creative twist come out within it.

Motion path

The motion path is part of my think sheet, which acts as a planning tool to map out the animation’s layout and movement before beginning the final work.

Time chart

This is another example of a think sheet, featuring the time charts I used to refine frame timing and better understand animation layout.

POse out

This pose-out sheet served as a creative reference to establish personality and movement before animating my flour sack sequences.
