Paper Bag is a bittersweet storyboard centered on a stray dog whose life changes when he’s adopted by a young boy, created to encourage shelter adoption through emotional storytelling. Set to the song “Paper Bag” by Fiona Apple, the concept starts with moments of vulnerability from a dog to a hopeful arc, leaning into themes of compassion, resilience, and second chances.

The story begins with a street dog chasing what appears to be a bird, only to discover it’s a crumpled paper bag. The tone shifts as we cut to the dog in a shelter, hesitant and overlooked until a young boy kneels at its kennel. Their connection grows slowly, marked by trust and time.

Pitch

I began this assignment with a written pitch and script mock-up to gather class feedback in my storyboard 1 class, and build a strong foundation for my storyline.

Character design

These are my initial sketches of the main dog character, which also served as practice for understanding canine anatomy before moving into the storyboard phase.
