For this assignment, I wanted to create work that would both enhance my animation portfolio and push me outside of my comfort zone. While I already have plenty of animations and storyboards, I felt that focusing on concept art would be a valuable addition to my portfolio.
To incorporate the essential animation skills presented to us at the beginning of the term, I chose to use painting as my medium, as it was included in the skill list. With this in mind, I decided to paint a landscape of a village, featuring various light sources, fog, and a distant castle, to showcase my ability to create atmospheric and dynamic environments.
Process

Before clean-up
This is my painting in its early, underdeveloped stage, prior to peer critique. After, I received helpful feedback on my perspective and lighting choices, which allowed me to adjust my direction before getting too caught up in details. That input made a big difference in how the final piece came together.
Perspective layout
This is the digital layout I created to better map out my perspective and proportions for the final painting.
